Racing Incident Report
ME AND YOU left the gates awkwardly, shifted in and bumped BRAVEHEART. On jumping, FAIRY TALE was inconvenienced by LEAD TO WIN which shifted in abruptly. T Culhane (KING COBRA) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that near the winning post the first time he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of STAR DRAGON. As a consequence of this, that horse was taken in and made contact with ME AND YOU which shifted inwards across the running of MIDAS KING. This caused that horse to be checked and FAIRY TALE which was to its inside was inconvenienced. T Culhane was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 21 May 2001 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting at Sha Tin next Sunday. Turning out of the Straight the first time, LEAD TO WIN and WORLD STAR raced tight inside MIDAS KING. Near the 1000 Metres, WORLD STAR got its head up and was steadied when tight just inside the hindquarters of KING COBRA. After the 1000 Metres, ME AND YOU and KING COBRA came together. For some distance near the 600 Metres, WINNING LUCK was awkwardly placed inside FAIRY TALE which itself was awkward on the heels of ME AND YOU. In the early part of the Straight, LEAD TO WIN was steadied and shifted in when disappointed for running between FAIRY TALE and KING COBRA. After the 200 Metres, LEAD TO WIN was again steadied when crowded between FAIRY TALE and WORLD STAR (S Dye) which momentarily shifted out. Because of the shift of WORLD STAR, S Dye stopped riding and straightened. About the 200 Metres, BRAVEHEART shifted out from behind KING COBRA and bumped STAR DRAGON. About 100 Metres out, WORLD STAR was accidentally hit on the head by the whip of S King (STAR OF TAI PO). Throughout the race, BRAVEHEART had a tendency to get its head on the side and lay in. W Woods (STAR DRAGON) said the horse had trialed well recently in a visor, tonight when racing in that gear for the first time tended to over-race and proved very difficult for him to settle. He said in the Straight STAR DRAGON was well beaten, shifted a lot of ground, and he did not ride it out as he normally would. He said on pulling up STAR DRAGON was making abnormal breathing noises. Before being allowed to race again, STAR DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LEAD TO WIN was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
