Racing Incident Report
MILLENNIUM LEGEND left the gates awkwardly. FORTUNE GLORY was slowly away. QUICK STEP, which was throwing its head about after being boxed, left the gates awkwardly and was also bumped by SEA DRAGON PEARL which shifted in. Near the 600 Metres, COUNTRY DRAGON was awkwardly placed when trying to improve between ME AND YOU and WORLD STAR. At about the same time, FORTUNE GLORY was momentarily awkward on the heels of MILLENNIUM LEGEND and shifted out. Approaching the 400 Metres, FORTUNE GLORY got its head up when awkward behind MILLENNIUM LEGEND. After the 200 Metres, FORTUNE GLORY was steadied and shifted in when awkward on the heels of SEA DRAGON PEARL which was giving ground. The Stewards overruled an objection lodged by K H Ting, the rider of MILLENNIUM LEGEND, which finished 2nd, against ME AND YOU (J Egan) being declared the winner. K H Ting had alleged interference to his mount after the 100 Metres. The Stewards considered that whilst ME AND YOU did shift some ground after the 100 Metres and caused some inconvenience to MILLENNIUM LEGEND, they did not consider the extent of the interference that did occur justified an alteration to the Judge's placings. Further it was the opinion of the Stewards that ME AND YOU was at the very least finishing the race off as strongly as MILLENNIUM LEGEND. Accordingly the placings as semaphored were confirmed. When ME AND YOU shifted in abruptly after the 200 Metres, J Egan immediately stopped riding, pulled his mount out and changed whip hands. E Legrix (SUPERIOR TITLE) was fined $20,000 for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards [Rule 132(iii)]. D Whyte (CHARMING STRIDE) said in the Straight the horse did not stretch out as he thought it should, he did think the action of the horse was not correct. He said on pulling up CHARMING STRIDE in his opinion seemed to be having trouble with its breathing and its action was uncoordinated. Before CHARMING STRIDE will be allowed to race again, it will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CHARMING STRIDE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
