Racing Incident Report

At the commencement of the parade, E Saint-Martin was dislodged from SWEET VICTORY. After arriving at the barriers, it was noted that the tongue tie on THE VITALITY STAR had come off. This was refitted before the horse was boxed. Also after arriving at the barriers, STAR OF HONG KONG was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He discussed the horse's condition with S King and then decided STAR OF HONG KONG was suitable to race. On jumping, SWEET VICTORY was crowded for room between APPLAUSE FOR ME which shifted out and SUPER FAIRWAY which shifted in. Also on jumping, SPARKO shifted in and made contact with UNIVERSAL BOSS. GREEN CHARM, which was not standing well, jumped awkwardly, bumped the inside of its gate. C Williams (SPARKO) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that at about the 800 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of APPLAUSE FOR ME. As a consequence of this, APPLAUSE FOR ME was crowded onto SUPER STAR, lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled and was checked. STAR OF HONG KONG, which was following, was checked as a consequence. Inconvenience was also caused to UNIVERSAL BOSS and to NINGBO WARRIOR. After considering all the circumstances and the submissions put by C Williams, it was decided the appropriate penalty was for his licence to be suspended for a period to expire on Monday, 15 January 2001 on which day he may resume race riding. The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley meeting next Wednesday, 3 January 2001. Near the 600 Metres, SUPER FAIRWAY was awkward on the heels of APPLAUSE FOR ME. About the 500 Metres, NINGBO WARRIOR accidentally clipped the heels of STAR OF HONG KONG and knuckled. About the 400 Metres, MONEY STAR shifted out in an endeavour to find running and go forward. As a consequence of this, some inconvenience was caused to THE VITALITY STAR. In the Straight, SUPER STAR had a tendency to get its head up and lay in. Apprentice Y T Cheng (GREEN CHARM) said at its last run the horse had performed well, he had ridden it in work since then, the work had been no more than satisfactory. He said today at no stage of the race did GREEN CHARM get on the bit, was very disappointing. He was unable to offer any real explanation for the run. MONEY STAR was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
