Racing Incident Report
The start was delayed as TATTENHALL was difficult to load. Before being allowed to race again, TATTENHALL will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. GOLDCHIN BEST was slowly away. TUMBLER jumped very awkwardly, shifted out, bumped the shoulders of GOLDEN WARRIOR which also missed the start. GOLDCHIN BEST made the first turn awkwardly, shifted out and caused some inconvenience to PERFECT CHOICE. Rounding the turn near the 600 Metres, PROFITEER hung out. As a consequence of this, inconvenience was caused to TUMBLER and that horse was obliged to race wider. For some distance approaching the 400 Metres, WINNING HURRAH was awkward on the heels of LOVE ON EARTH and tight inside SAI KUNG STAR. The Stewards deferred the declaration of Weighed-In. They were of the prima facie view that incidents had occurred in the Straight which cast sufficient doubt on whether or not GOLD RUSH (S Dye) should be declared 2nd placegetter. They decided that there was justification to have the matter resolved formally and openly at an objection hearing under Rule 151(iv). The Stewards on all the available evidence were of the opinion that in the early part of the Straight GOLD RUSH had shifted in and caused interference to FOREVER VICTORY and again near the winning post had shifted ground, causing interference to FOREVER VICTORY, the material extent of that interference in the opinion of the Stewards exceeded the margin between the two horses at the finish, therefore they sustained the objection and amended the placings to read, 1st, No. 14, LOVE ON EARTH; 2nd, No. 1, LOMBARD; 3rd, No. 11, WINNING HURRAH; 4th, No. 2, FOREVER VICTORY; 5th, No. 5, GOLD RUSH. At a subsequent inquiry, S Dye pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 132(i)]. The careless riding being that in the early part of the Straight he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of FOREVER VICTORY. As a consequence of this, FOREVER VICTORY was unnecessarily crowded for room. S Dye was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday, 7 January 2001 on which day he may resume race riding. The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting at Sha Tin on Tuesday, 26 December 2000. Over about the last 50 Metres, GOLDCHIN BEST was not able to obtain clear running. FOREVER VICTORY was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
