Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the barriers, it was noted that the tongue tie on REFRESHINGLY had loosened. This was adjusted before the horse was boxed. SMILING UNION was slowly away. On jumping, CITY COMMANDER and TRULY DELIGHTED came together. TERRIFIC SPIRIT jumped with its head up, was then steadied to a rearward position. Shortly after the start, CITY COMMANDER was checked when crowded by TRULY DELIGHTED (Apprentice S K Sit) which had a tendency to lay in away from HERO'S CHOICE. It was decided not to take any direct action, but Apprentice S K Sit was severely reprimanded and told when in similar circumstances he must make a greater effort to protect his fellow riders. At the conclusion of the inquiry, E Saint-Martin (HERO'S CHOICE) was told he will be expected to provide inquiries with more straightforward evidence than he did on this occasion. J Egan (FLYING KNIGHT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that at about the 1100 Metres he allowed his mount to shift inwards when not clear of HERO'S CHOICE. As a consequence of this, that horse was carried in across TRULY DELIGHTED which lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled and was checked. For some distance after this, TRULY DELIGHTED raced ungenerously. J Egan was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 7 December 2000 on which day he may resume race riding. The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting at Sha Tin on Sunday, 26 November 2000. About the 200 Metres, CITY COMMANDER got its head up and shifted ground to avoid the heels of LEOPARD which was taken out slightly by WINNING FOCUS. Throughout the race, SAINT TAK hung in, in the Straight proved somewhat difficult to ride out.
