Racing Incident Report
COMEDY bounded in the air at the start. MASCOT TREASURE missed the start, was then awkward when crowded onto the heels of UNIVERSAL GLORY by WINTEL which shifted in. CHIU CHOW BOY jumped with its head up. UNIVERSAL GLORY made the turn near the 1000 Metres awkwardly, shifted out onto the heels of CHINA RED. Near the 900 Metres, UNIVERSAL GLORY was steadied when momentarily crowded by CHIU CHOW BOY. In the middle and concluding stages of the race, WINTEL covered a lot of ground and travelled without cover. Near the 400 Metres, COMFORT (S Dye) shifted out in an endeavour to go forward, in doing so made contact with NAZAKAT II which was weakening. This horse in turn shifted ground and made contact with CHIU CHOW BOY and UNIVERSAL GLORY was also inconvenienced. It was decided to take no direct action, but S Dye was reprimanded and told he must exercise greater care when shifting ground. J Egan (THE GREATEST) and D Whyte (MASCOT TREASURE) were questioned about an incident which occurred just after straightening. The Stewards were concerned that as a result of tight riding from D Whyte, THE GREATEST may have been denied legitimate running between CHINA RED and MASCOT TREASURE. The Stewards were further concerned that during this incident D Whyte raised his right elbow towards the head of THE GREATEST. It was established that just on straightening, THE GREATEST almost had running between CHINA RED and MASCOT TREASURE, shortly after this the run was closed when MASCOT TREASURE shifted in slightly. The Stewards could not be satisfied to the necessary standard that there had been a breach of the Rules and accordingly no action was taken, however, D Whyte was told whilst the Stewards accept at times tight riding is necessary, there are levels to which it can be taken and on this occasion D Whyte had in their opinion tested those limits out. He was further told the practice he has of raising his elbow should be discontinued. THE GREATEST was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
