Racing Incident Report
D O'Neill (DANZIGHILL) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 132(i)]. The careless riding being that at about the 1400 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of BUMPER STORM. As a consequence of this, BUMPER STORM was carried in onto KEEN WINNER which in turn shifted ground onto HOUSEMASTER, both KEEN WINNER and HOUSEMASTER were checked. After taking into account all the circumstances, the Stewards decided that the appropriate penalty in this case was that D O'Neill be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday, 5 November 2000 on which day he may resume race riding. The suspension of his riding licence is to take immediate effect. In the early part of the Straight, HOUSEMASTER was steadied and shifted out to avoid DANZIGHILL. About the 300 Metres, SCHUBERT was steadied when disappointed for running between HUNTING LAD and KENWOOD MELODY. After the 300 Metres, LORD OF WARRIORS had trouble obtaining running between BUMPER STORM and HELENE EXPRESS, then after the 200 Metres was steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of DANZIGHILL which was weakening. After the 200 Metres, HELENE EXPRESS was steadied and changed course to avoid HOUSEMASTER. The Stewards overruled an objection lodged by S Dye, the rider of INDIGENOUS, which finished 2nd, against BILLION WIN (M de Montfort) being declared the winner. S Dye had alleged interference to his mount about 150 metres from the line. The Stewards considered that even though BILLION WIN did shift in for a short distance after the 150 Metres, any interference that might have caused to INDIGENOUS could not have materially affected the finishing positions. Subsequently the objection was overruled and the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. Apprentice M W Leung (BUMPER STORM) explained he had been asked by the Trainer to ride the horse in about 5th or 6th position if possible. Apprentice Leung said however in the early stages there was little pace on in the race, BUMPER STORM was pulling hard, he was not able to carry out the instructions he had been given and in the circumstances he had little alternative but to let the horse run along in a forward position. The explanations submitted by Apprentice M W Leung were accepted. ORIENTAL EXPRESS was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
