Racing Incident Report
KIMBO BELL jumped a little awkwardly and shortly after the start was awkward on the heels of HAPPY CENTURY. About the 1200 Metres, ZINEDINE shifted in slightly away from WELL EXPRESS which was improving to lead. As a consequence of this, RED IN GREEN, which was over-racing with its head up, was bumped, became unbalanced and lost its position. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. Approaching the first turn, ZINEDINE hung in. About the 600 Metres, RED IN GREEN again became unbalanced when awkward on the heels of VICTORY MARBLE which was giving ground and tight inside SMARTLORD. When questioned, F Coetzee (HAPPY CENTURY) said in pre- race discussions with the Trainer it had been decided because of the pattern of racing tonight to try and ride HAPPY CENTURY further back than had been the practice in the past. He said the horse left the gates well and he took up a position behind RED IN GREEN as he anticipated this would be a good horse to follow. He pointed out however when RED IN GREEN lost its position at about the 1000 Metres he was caught behind it and as a consequence got much further out of his ground than was the intention. He said in the Straight he had to change course with HAPPY CENTURY to find running, but the horse did not finish the race off as it should. HAPPY CENTURY was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
