Racing Incident Report

L Ho, Trainer of LEGEND OF WEI HAI, was fined $5,000 for initially declaring C P Ting to ride that horse when such Apprentice rider was not qualified to fulfil the engagement [Rule 63(vii)]. Before being presented in the Parade Ring, it was noted that the off side hind plate of NO COMPETITOR had spread slightly. This was rectified before the horse was paraded. KING COBRA jumped awkwardly, bumping the inside of its gate. As a consequence, D Whyte was momentarily unbalanced. On jumping, NANNING TREASURE had a tendency to throw its head about. LEGEND OF WEI HAI was slowly away and then over about the last 200 Metres was inclined to race ungenerously and shift ground. About the 200 Metres, INCREASE SPEED, which was giving ground, became unbalanced when crowded between TRIUMPHANT STAR and KING COBRA (D Whyte) which had been hanging out throughout and continued to shift ground at this stage when INCREASE SPEED was crowded. It was decided to take no direct action, but D Whyte was reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he must stop riding and straighten. After this incident, KING COBRA continued to shift out in the run to the line. In the Straight, TIME WELL was inclined to get its head up and shift in. As a consequence of this, W C Marwing changed the whip into his right hand.
