Michael Chang Chun-wai
Age: 62
Background:
Michael Chang served three years as an apprentice jockey with trainer David Wilson in Great Britain before returning to Hong Kong in the late 1980s to commence his career with the Club. He worked his way through the ranks to become assistant trainer to Gary Ng. In 2014 he saddled his Dubai Golden Shaheen runner-up Rich Tapestry to win the Santa Anita Sprint Championship at Group 1 level, the horse making history as the first Hong Kong galloper to win a race in the United States of America. He had succeeded with the same horse in the G3 Mahab Al Shimaal in Dubai earlier that year, while Rich Tapestry also won the G3 Al Shindagha Sprint there for Chang in 2016.
