Racing Incident Report
YOUNG RASCAL lost ground when crowded for room at the start between SOUTHERN LEGEND and ASPETAR which shifted in.
EAGLE WAY and CALLED TO THE BAR bumped at the start.
Near the 2200 Metres, DEIRDRE raced tight inside HO HO KHAN which shifted in.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, GLORY VASE raced close to the heels of PRINCE OF ARRAN.
Approaching the 1700 Metres, MOUNT EVEREST was left racing wide and without cover.
Near the 1000 Metres, MOUNT EVEREST was shifted out away from the heels of ASPETAR which shifted out marginally when awkwardly placed behind ANTHONY VAN DYCK.
Near the 950 Metres, YOUNG RASCAL was steadied away from the heels of GLORY VASE which was awkwardly placed inside the heels of ASPETAR. HO HO KHAN, which was following YOUNG RASCAL, shifted in away from the heels of that horse in consequence, resulting in EAGLE WAY being crowded for room.
Approaching the 600 Metres, YOUNG RASCAL stumbled after clipping the heels of LUCKY LILAC which, after improving inside the heels of MOUNT EVEREST, was taken in marginally by that horse which lay in when commencing to give ground. As the Stewards were satisfied that there was no carelessness involved in this incident, no further action was taken.
At the entrance to the Straight, TRUE SELF momentarily raced tight to the inside of GLORY VASE as that horse shifted in away from the heels of ANTHONY VAN DYCK which came under pressure.
HO HO KHAN was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and then passing the 300 Metres was steadied when disappointed for running between ASPETAR and CALLED TO THE BAR. HO HO KHAN was then shifted to the outside of CALLED TO THE BAR approaching the 250 Metres to obtain clear running.
At the 350 Metres, ASPETAR was awkwardly placed inside the heels of LUCKY LILAC (C Soumillon) which shifted in. C Soumillon was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. In this incident, ANTHONY VAN DYCK was brushed by ASPETAR.
In the Straight, CALLED TO THE BAR lay in.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ANTHONY VAN DYCK, R Moore stated that the horse, which was wearing blinkers for the first time today, was able to obtain a forward position without having too much use made of it. He said however ANTHONY VAN DYCK did not travel at any stage when ridden in a prominent position and came under heavy pressure prior to the Home Turn. He added the manner in which ANTHONY VAN DYCK weakened in the Straight indicated to him that the horse may have come to the end of its campaign. A veterinary inspection of ANTHONY VAN DYCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
EXULTANT, GLORY VASE and LUCKY LILAC were sent for sampling.
