Racing Incident Report
TENNESSEE BOSS began only fairly.
FRIENDS OF NANJING was crowded on jumping between ENFOLDING and GALLANT SPIRIT, both of which shifted ground.
From the outside barrier, ASSOCIATION FANS was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
GREAT JOY was steadied for some distance in the early stages to obtain cover.
After the 1300 Metres, TENNESSEE BOSS proved very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of DEAL MAKER. Then near the 1200 Metres, TENNESSEE BOSS shifted out and bumped ENFOLDING when continuing to prove difficult to settle.
Approaching the 700 Metres, GREAT JOY momentarily raced tight between TENNESSEE BOSS which shifted out and ASSOCIATION FANS which got its head on the side and lay in.
In the early part of the Straight, DEAL MAKER was awkwardly placed behind WHAMPOA STAR when being shifted to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running.
The performance of FRIENDS OF NANJING, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FRIENDS OF NANJING will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of FRIENDS OF NANJING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
K Teetan, the rider of GENERAL DINO, was fined $5,000 for repeatedly using the whip down the horse’s right shoulder in the Home Straight. In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into consideration they had not previously spoken to Jockey Teetan regarding using the whip in this manner.
When questioned, K C Leung stated that he had previously ridden ENFOLDING and formed the view that the horse does not possess a turn of foot but is rather one-paced. He said in tonight’s race he had been following REMARKABLE in the early and middle stages which was not being run at a quick tempo. He said as REMARKABLE is also one-paced, he elected to shift out from behind REMARKABLE after the 800 Metres in order to improve around that horse rather than have to follow that horse when it shifted out at a later stage.
A veterinary inspection of GREAT JOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
DEAL MAKER, GENERAL DINO and TRAVEL FIRST were sent for sampling.
<4/4/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>GREAT JOY, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. GREAT JOY was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D J Hall this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, GREAT JOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
The Veterinary Surgeon reported that DEAL MAKER was lame in its left hind leg with a swollen fetlock on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, DEAL MAKER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
