Racing Incident Report

GOOD CHOICE AHEAD was slow to begin.
CHEERS CONQUEROR began only fairly and then was crowded for room between ENCHANTED FEELING and DARING HEART which shifted out.
FANTASTIC FABIO and SPICY KAKA bumped at the start.
From a wide barrier, AMBITIOUS HEART was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Near the 1150 Metres and again approaching the 1000 Metres, SPICY KAKA shifted in and bumped GOOD CHOICE AHEAD.
FANTASTIC FABIO lost its left front plate near the 1100 Metres.
In the early stages, SOUTHERN EXPRESS was left racing very wide and approaching the 900 Metres was allowed to stride forward and race outside the lead near the 700 Metres.
After the 700 Metres, LOOK ERAS was left racing wide and without cover.
Approaching the 500 Metres, AMBITIOUS HEART shifted out away from the heels of GENEROUS HEART.
Rounding the Home Turn, GENEROUS HEART was shifted out away from the heels of DARING HEART which shifted out after being awkwardly placed behind LOOK ERAS which was obliged to shift out away from the heels of BEAR CHUM.
H W Lai (DARING HEART) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 400 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when riding along and when not clear of GENEROUS HEART, causing that horse to be checked, to clip the heels of DARING HEART and blunder. When GENEROUS HEART was checked, that horse shifted in abruptly, resulting in ENCHANTED FEELING being severely hampered when taken in across the heels of SPICY KAKA. H W Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 7 December 2016 and to expire on Monday, 12 December 2016 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, H W Lai was fined $10,000.
Approaching the 350 Metres, DARING HEART was hampered when shifted out away from the heels of LOOK ERAS (N Rawiller) which shifted out under pressure. N Rawiller was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to keep his mounts on a straight course.
T H So (FANTASTIC FABIO) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching and passing the 300 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of LUCKY KINGDOM, resulting in that horse being severely hampered and taken out across the running of SOUTHERN EXPRESS which was severely checked near the 250 Metres when crowded for room inside BEAR CHUM. CHEER WIN, which had been unable to obtain clear running in the early part of the Straight, was checked in consequence and shifted out, resulting in SPICY KAKA becoming unbalanced and shifting out and in turn bumping DARING HEART. T H So was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Saturday, 17 December 2016 and to expire on Friday, 23 December 2016 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account T H So’s good race riding record.
Passing the 50 Metres, GOOD CHOICE AHEAD was steadied when disappointed for running inside CARRY TO WIN (O Murphy) which shifted in under pressure. O Murphy was advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to keep his mounts straight. GOOD CHOICE AHEAD was then held up in the run to the finishing line and consequently was not able to be tested.
After the race, it was reported that LUCKY KINGDOM had sustained an abrasion to the left forearm.
A veterinary inspection of CHEER WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of SOUTHERN EXPRESS immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SOUTHERN EXPRESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SOUTHERN EXPRESS, LOOK ERAS and AMBITIOUS HEART were sent for sampling.
