Racing Incident Report
When parading behind the barriers, MAGICAL BEAM lost its left front plate. After a number of attempts were made to replate the horse, MAGICAL BEAM, which became agitated, was withdrawn by order of the Stewards when it was unable to be replated. This resulted in a significant delay to the running of the race.
As the start was effected, ALL MY GLORY reared and lost a significant amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, ALL MY GLORY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
Despite being ridden along vigorously in the early stages, CLEMENT SPIRIT failed to muster speed and became detached from the field.
Passing the 1100 Metres, TAKE THE RAP, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of SPLENDID GUY. YOUNG WARRIOR, which was following, was hampered in consequence.
Making the turn near the 900 Metres, LA COTE DE BLEU raced tight inside ROBUST MOMENTUM which was taken in marginally by YOUNG WARRIOR which shifted slight ground when awkwardly placed outside the heels of TAKE THE RAP.
GOLDWEAVER travelled wide and without cover until after the 800 Metres at which point the horse was able to shift in to race outside the leader.
SPLENDID GUY lost its right front plate near the 500 Metres.
In the early part of the Straight, ROBUST MOMENTUM got its head on the side and lay in under pressure and near the 300 Metres was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TAKE THE RAP.
Near the 300 Metres, LA COTE DE BLEU, which was hanging in badly, blundered after striking the heels of DRAGON CHOICE which shifted out marginally. As the Stewards attributed this incident to the racing manners of LA COTE DE BLEU, no further action was taken.
After the 200 Metres, SPLENDID GUY got its head on the side and lay in under pressure.
After the 100 Metres, YOUNG WARRIOR was shifted out away from ROBUST MOMENTUM which shifted ground marginally.
Close to the finishing line, T H So (LUCKY CHOICE) dropped his left rein.
When questioned, G Mosse stated that he had been instructed to lead on GOLDWEAVER as the horse had previously led in its races over 1400 Metres. He said despite being ridden along in the early stages, GOLDWEAVER did not show sufficient early speed to be able to cross runners to its inside. He said when ELEPHANT MAGIC and DRAGON CHOICE, which were positioned to the inside of GOLDWEAVER, were ridden along to maintain their positions, he did not believe it would be in the best interests of GOLDWEAVER to continue pushing that horse forward as it was showing a reluctance to stretch out properly. He said therefore he elected to obtain a position with cover after the 1200 Metres. He said however due to the make-up of the field, he was unable to obtain a position with cover behind DRAGON CHOICE and for this reason he allowed GOLDWEAVER to improve its position around DRAGON CHOICE to race outside the leader ELEPHANT MAGIC. He added making the Home Turn GOLDWEAVER got its head on the side, hung out and immediately came under heavy pressure. He said GOLDWEAVER shortened stride and, in his opinion, the horse’s action deteriorated to the point where he felt that something may have gone amiss with it. He said whilst he could detect no abnormalities with GOLDWEAVER after the race, he advised the Veterinary Officer and the trainer of his concerns over the horse’s action during the race. A veterinary inspection of GOLDWEAVER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDWEAVER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
The Veterinary Officer reported that SPLENDID GUY had sustained a laceration to the inside of the right front leg.
SPLENDID GUY, LUCKY CHOICE and MAN AND MING were sent for sampling.
<4/2/2014 Additional Veterinary Report>The Clinical Veterinary Surgeon reported that YOUNG WARRIOR was found to be lame in its right front foot on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, YOUNG WARRIOR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
