Racing Incident Report
SHANTARAAM was withdrawn on 25.1.14 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter VIVA DOLPHIN (O Doleuze). Before being allowed to race again, SHANTARAAM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
On arrival at the Start, the tongue tie applied to DOUBLE MOON was refitted.
DOUBLE MOON began awkwardly.
INFINITE COURAGE knuckled over at the start.
TIPPERARY DAVOR was slow to begin.
MONEY WIN WINS had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.
PRINCE OF SUNSHINE was badly held up for clear until near the 250 Metres.
Close to the finishing line, ALL MY BENEFIT raced tight between ISLAND SPRING and PRINCE OF SUNSHINE which shifted out marginally. Because of this, ALL MY BENEFIT was not able to be ridden out to the end of the race as it otherwise would be.
In the Straight, GOLD TARTINI got its head on the side and lay in.
For the majority of the race, ALL MY BENEFIT travelled wide and without cover.
The performance of VIVA DOLPHIN, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, VIVA DOLPHIN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of M Demuro (DOUBLE MOON), 6th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit.
When questioned, W C Marwing stated that, from the outside barrier, he had been asked to shift CRUISE CONTROL across behind runners in the early part of the race. He said CRUISE CONTROL did not travel as strongly in today’s race as it did at its last start when it was able to obtain a more forward position in running from an inside draw. He said passing the 800 Metres he rode CRUISE CONTROL along in an endeavour to hold its position behind GOLD TARTINI, however, when that horse quickened after the 700 Metres he was reluctant to ride his mount along vigorously at this time as CRUISE CONTROL has a relatively short run and he felt that to commence to ride it along at that stage would not have been in the horse’s best interests. He added he shifted CRUISE CONTROL out after the 600 Metres to the outside of EASY AHEAD and the horse then finished off the race reasonably. He said after the race he recommended to connections that they step the horse up in distance in its future races so that it is able to travel better.
A veterinary inspection of MONEY WIN WINS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
INFINITE COURAGE and SUISSE D’OR were sent for sampling.
<27/1/2014 Additional Veterinary Report> The Clinical Veterinary Surgeon reported that DOUBLE MOON was found to be lame in its left front leg on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, DOUBLE MOON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
