Racing Incident Report
CIRCUIT FORTUNE was withdrawn on 24.10.13 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (substantial amount of mucus on scoping after track work) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter HIGH RETURN. Before being allowed to race again, CIRCUIT FORTUNE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When being saddled, LUGER became fractious. LUGER was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.
T-BOLT began awkwardly.
DISTINCT COMMANDER began very awkwardly and bounded in the air for a number of strides after the start, resulting in the horse losing ground. Before being allowed to race again, DISTINCT COMMANDER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
From a wide barrier, YEUNG SING was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, WINNING MASCOT failed to muster speed.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, HIGH RETURN was checked away from the heels of KYNAM (J Moreira) which shifted in abruptly. In the circumstances, J Moreira was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future.
Passing the 1100 Metres, KYNAM was momentarily crowded for room inside MASSIVE which shifted in. When being shifted out to relieve the tightening to KYNAM, MASSIVE raced greenly and got its head up on a number of occasions.
Near the 1000 Metres, DISTINCT COMMANDER lost its right hind plate.
After the 400 Metres, HIGH RETURN was shifted in after being very awkwardly placed close to the heels of ORIENTAL FANTASIA which was giving ground.
Throughout the race, T-BOLT travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding his riding of MASSIVE, T H So stated that, from barrier 12, he had been instructed to ride MASSIVE positively and obtain a forward position if possible. He said after the 1200 Metres he had intended to race to the outside of KYNAM, however, near the 1100 Metres MASSIVE got its head up, shifted in abruptly and commenced to race greenly. He said when he corrected MASSIVE, the horse raced ungenerously and for this reason rather than remain racing to the outside of KYNAM, he allowed the horse to improve its position into the lead. He added after crossing KYNAM near the 1000 Metres, he attempted to steady the tempo on MASSIVE, however, the horse over-raced and was reluctant to settle. He said this resulted in the tempo in the early and middle stages of the race being faster than he had hoped. He said because of this MASSIVE was then not able to finish off the race. T H So was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he must make every effort to ride his mounts in such a manner so as to ensure that they are able to finish off their race. The performance of MASSIVE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MASSIVE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding his riding of ORIENTAL FANTASIA, Apprentice C Y Lui stated that he had been instructed to lead on ORIENTAL FANTASIA due to the horse’s light weight and being drawn in 14. He said after shifting in to race outside the leader MASSIVE, he immediately commenced to attempt to steady his mount, however, ORIENTAL FANTASIA was difficult to settle and over-raced. The performance of ORIENTAL FANTASIA, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ORIENTAL FANTASIA will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, K Teetan stated that it had been intended for PEARL WIN to be ridden in a handy position if possible given that in earlier races it appeared that horses being ridden on the pace had been advantaged. He said after the blindfold was removed from PEARL WIN in the barriers, the horse became fractious and as the start was effected began only fairly. He said a short distance after the start PEARL WIN was crowded for room between LORD DRAGON which shifted in and AMBITIOUS TREASURE which shifted out after being bumped by WINNING MASCOT. He said because of these circumstances PEARL WIN was obliged to race further back in the field than had been intended. He added PEARL WIN came off the bridle at the 700 Metres and was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding in the Straight and finish off the race as expected. A veterinary inspection of PEARL WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
LUGER and KYNAM were sent for sampling.
