Racing Incident Report
JUST GOOD began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of MAGICAL BEAM.
CAVALE and LOTUS LOVE, both of which jumped awkwardly, bumped at the start. A short distance later, LOTUS LOVE was taken out by CAVALE and in doing so made heavy contact with the hindquarters of CITY DELIGHT, causing that horse to become badly unbalanced. After this, LOTUS LOVE was ridden along, however, failed to muster speed.
From the outside barrier, IDYLLIC WIND was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
Near the 800 Metres, BRILLIANT LIGHT was left racing wide and without cover.
Approaching the 200 Metres, SUPERKING DRAGON got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of DANESOUTH, resulting in SUPERKING DRAGON being steadied away from the heels of that horse after the 200 Metres.
Over the concluding stages, TOP POWER and DANESOUTH were awkwardly placed outside the heels of DARK SECRET which shifted out marginally under pressure.
After the race, Z Purton (GOOD TIMES ROLL) reported that his saddle shifted forward in the early stages, placing him at a disadvantage for the majority of the race.
Also after the race, C O’Donoghue reported that near the 200 Metres CAVALE made an abnormal respiratory noise. He said because of this he eased the horse down over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of CAVALE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of CAVALE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CAVALE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, Apprentice K C Ng stated that, from barrier 13, he had been asked to take MEDIC KINGDOM across behind runners in the early stages and ride the horse towards the rear of the field. He said it was explained to him that, from the wide barrier, were MEDIC KINGDOM to be ridden along in the early stages to take up a forward position, it may not then be able to finish off its race. He said therefore he was asked to have the horse settled in the early and middle stages to see if it could close off its race. He said although MEDIC KINGDOM began very well, he did not consider going forward on the horse due to the instructions he had received. He added MEDIC KINGDOM proved difficult to settle in the early stages when being steadied to a position across behind runners and then throughout the race proved reluctant to follow other horses. He said due to the manner in which MEDIC KINGDOM travelled in the early stages, the horse was then not able to finish off the race. He added he rode the horse when it raced well after leading two starts ago, however, on that occasion the horse had drawn favourably in barrier 2 compared to today’s wide barrier. Apprentice Ng stated that he advised connections after the race that, in his opinion, based on the manner in which MEDIC KINGDOM raced today, he believed the horse may be better suited by being ridden in a forward position. A veterinary inspection of MEDIC KINGDOM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned, K Teetan stated that he had been asked to ride DARK SECRET in about 4th or 5th position if possible. He said in the early stages he had to push DARK SECRET along to cross CLEMENT SPIRIT when that horse was ridden along. He said when he did this, DARK SECRET commenced to get its head up and proved difficult to settle. He added however that after being able to obtain cover after the 900 Metres, DARK SECRET then travelled comfortably.
A veterinary inspection of SUPERKING DRAGON and GOOD TIMES ROLL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
CLEMENT SPIRIT and MAGICAL BEAM were sent for sampling.
