Racing Incident Report
B Prebble (LUCKY NINE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching and passing the 1000 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of TIME AFTER TIME, causing that horse to be hampered when crowded for room between LUCKY NINE and EL ZONDA and consequently losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled. B Prebble was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 16 May 2013 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting on Wednesday, 8 May 2013. In addition, B Prebble was fined $80,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating two further racedays.
Making the first turn near the 850 Metres, VITAL FLYER got its head up, commenced to over-race and shifted out, resulting in EL ZONDA being crowded for room inside BEST ELEVEN.
Near the 600 Metres, TIME AFTER TIME was checked away from the heels of EL ZONDA which got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FREDERICK ENGELS.
Rounding the Home Turn and in the Straight, VITAL FLYER got its head on the side and lay out.
CERISE CHERRY had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.
Near the 350 Metres, FREDERICK ENGELS shifted out and brushed CAPTAIN SWEET.
For the majority of the race, CAPTAIN SWEET travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LUCKY NINE, B Prebble stated that after shifting his mount across behind runners from the outside barrier in the early stages, LUCKY NINE then travelled satisfactorily with cover behind BEST ELEVEN until near the 600 Metres. He said similarly to its most recent start, LUCKY NINE came off the bridle passing the 600 Metres which was unusual for the horse. He said in the early part of the Straight LUCKY NINE did not show its usual turn of foot and TIME AFTER TIME was able to shift LUCKY NINE out. He added he placed LUCKY NINE under pressure in the early part of the Straight, however, the horse did not respond to his riding until over the concluding stages when it commenced to finish off the race fairly. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY NINE including an endoscopic examination immediately following the race showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY NINE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of FREDERICK ENGELS immediately following the race revealed the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, FREDERICK ENGELS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
LUCKY NINE, RICH TAPESTRY and GO BABY GO were sent for sampling.
