Racing Incident Report

BEAUTY MISSION was withdrawn on 2.11.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore foot) and was replaced by 1st Standby Declared Starter SUNRISE. IRON HAWK was withdrawn on 3.11.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (swollen left fore tendon) and was replaced by 2nd Standby Declared Starter MING HOI TREASURE (H W Lai). Before being allowed to race again, BEAUTY MISSION and IRON HAWK will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
HOLY MAC shifted in at the start and bumped AEROSA.
DEEP THINKER began awkwardly and shortly after the start was crowded for room between SUNRISE and PEPPERMINT which got its head on the side and shifted out.
FOREVER ELATION was slow to begin and shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of WINNING BOY.
From wide barriers, MING HOI TREASURE and GABRIAL THE KING were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
When being steadied with a view to being shifted across behind runners from a wide barrier shortly after the start, SUPERNINSKY got its head up on a number of occasions and proved difficult to settle. For some distance after this, SUPERNINSKY continued to prove very difficult to settle.
Passing the 1000 Metres, SUNRISE was momentarily crowded for room inside DEEP THINKER which shifted in. When DEEP THINKER was shifted out to relieve the tightening to SUNRISE, MING HOI TREASURE, which was following, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DEEP THINKER for some distance. For some distance after this, DEEP THINKER got its head up on a number of occasions when proving difficult to settle.
After the 900 Metres, NEW DEERFIELD was left racing wide and without cover.
After the 600 Metres, FOREVER ELATION was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GALAXY PRANCER.
After the 100 Metres, DEEP THINKER got its head on the side and shifted in under pressure.
Near the 50 Metres, GALAXY PRANCER got its head on the side, resulting in its rider having to stop riding and straighten his mount.
When questioned, W C Marwing stated that he had been asked to ride HOLY MAC, which was wearing blinkers for the first time today, in about 5th or 6th position with cover if possible. He said after riding his mount along briefly in the early stages, he steadied it as he felt that AEROSA may lead and HAPPY ERA may position itself to the outside of that horse. He said however that HAPPY ERA was steadied by its rider and then maintained its position one horse off the fence, resulting in HOLY MAC being left racing in a three wide position without cover. He said as he felt the sectionals of the race were slow in the early stages, he elected to allow HOLY MAC, which was travelling keenly with the blinkers applied, to stride forward rather than continue to race wide and without cover. He added that although HOLY MAC was travelling keenly, the horse was able to obtain a position in the lead without having to be made use of. He said that approaching the 800 Metres he was content to race to the outside of AEROSA, however, that horse was steadied by its rider, therefore he allowed HOLY MAC to continue on into the lead on the rail after the 800 Metres.
A veterinary inspection of AEROSA after the race revealed the horse to have bled from both nostrils.
A veterinary inspection of SUPERNINSKY after the race did not show any significant findings other than the horse had sustained a small wound to the left front heel.
A veterinary inspection of SUNRISE, which finished tailed out, after the race revealed that it was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being permitted to race again, SUNRISE will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
HAPPY ERA and DEEP THINKER were sent for sampling.
<5/11/2012 Additional Veterinary Report>SUNRISE, which finished tailed out, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. SUNRISE was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C H Yip this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left front leg. As previously advised, SUNRISE will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
