Racing Incident Report

LONGWAH KID was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Shortly after the start, HAPPY KAISER and PAR EXCELLENCE were crowded for room between PURE FORCE and PERFECT FIT which, after initially shifting in of its own accord, was then taken in slightly by TWIN TURBO. From a wide barrier, SERENDIPITY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. For some distance approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, HAPPY KAISER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PURE FORCE. After the 800 Metres, PERFECT FIT was left racing wide and without cover. After the 600 Metres, PURE FORCE became unbalanced when crowded for room inside SURFER BOY which got its head on the side and shifted in marginally. In the early part of the Straight, SURFER BOY was momentarily held up when obtaining tight running between PERFECT FIT and IDYLLIC WIND which was commencing to give ground. For some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, SURFER BOY raced in restricted room inside the heels of PERFECT FIT which shifted in marginally. Passing the 200 Metres, SURFER BOY was accidentally struck across the nose by the whip of O Doleuze (TWIN TURBO). Over the concluding stages, SURFER BOY raced in restricted room between TWIN TURBO and PERFECT FIT. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PURE FORCE, D Whyte stated that, from barrier 1, it had been decided to ride PURE FORCE slightly more forward than usual as the early races on the programme indicated that horses racing closer to the speed may be advantaged. He said after being crowded for room near the 600 Metres, PURE FORCE took a short time to become rebalanced, however, after the 500 Metres commenced to travel well. He said he placed the horse under pressure rounding the Home Turn, however, despite being ridden along, PURE FORCE did not respond to his riding and was disappointing. He added, in his opinion, PURE FORCE may be better suited by being ridden more conservatively than it was in tonight’s race. A veterinary inspection of PURE FORCE after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that KING ON EARTH had lost its right front plate. TWIN TURBO, MR AWARD and PERFECT FIT were sent for sampling.
