Racing Incident Report

On arrival at the barriers, it was noted that STAR LEGEND had sustained a minor cut to the right hind pastern. STAR LEGEND was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. CARISSIMA, which was leaning against the outside of its stall, was very slow to begin. As the start was effected, VINSANTO reared and consequently lost ground. From a wide barrier, EPEE DE HUA was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. For some distance approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, VINSANTO got its head up and proved difficult to settle. Near the 50 Metres, FASCINATING SMILE was struck across the nose by the whip of D Whyte (SUNSHINE BOY). After the race, W M Lai (BERNINI) reported that he was struck in the face by a clod. W M Lai was examined by the Club’s medical practitioners who advised that he was fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SUGAR ON TOP, Apprentice C Y Ho stated that although his mount was required to race three wide throughout the race, it had cover behind TOP SPEED. He said rounding the Home Turn he shifted SUGAR ON TOP to improve to the outside of TOP SPEED, however, that horse quickened better than SUGAR ON TOP in the early part of the Straight. He said in the Straight SUGAR ON TOP did not show a turn of foot and finished off the race only one-paced. A veterinary inspection of SUGAR ON TOP after the race did not show any significant findings. STAR LEGEND and MORE THAN YOU WISH were sent for sampling.
