Racing Incident Report

As the start was effected, LUCKY NINE (Apprentice M L Yeung) lifted both its front feet off the ground, shifted out and made contact with ELITE OF CHIU TON. LUCKY NINE was then steadied when crowded for room between CHEERFUL DELIGHTS which initially shifted out and ELITE OF CHIU TON which shifted in. CHEERFUL DELIGHTS was also hampered in this incident when taken in across the heels of WILLING STORM. Apprentice Yeung stated that in these incidents his saddle shifted to the left and placed him at a disadvantage for about 150 Metres before he was able to correct the position of his saddle. He further stated that near the 200 Metres his saddle again shifted slightly to the left and at this time LUCKY NINE shifted out under pressure. Making the turn near the 700 Metres, LUCKY NINE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WINE WIN. Throughout the race, MI REILLY travelled wide and without cover. The performance of MI REILLY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MI REILLY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, Apprentice K C Leung stated that he had been instructed to ride CHEQUE BOOK in about 4th or 5th position with cover if possible. He said from barrier 10 he was positive on the horse in the early stages, however, a number of horses drawn on CHEQUE BOOK`s inside were ridden to obtain forward positions, therefore he elected to shift CHEQUE BOOK across behind ELITE OF CHIU TON in the early stages to obtain cover behind that horse. He said CHEQUE BOOK did not travel throughout the race and, in his opinion, was most disappointing. Trainer K L Man stated that CHEQUE BOOK was meeting a stronger field than at its last start when successful. He said from barrier 10, whilst CHEQUE BOOK was able to obtain cover, the horse travelled wide throughout the race. He added CHEQUE BOOK had pleased him since its last start win and a forward showing was expected today. A veterinary inspection of CHEQUE BOOK and CHEERFUL DELIGHTS after the race did not show any significant findings. ENTRAPMENT and LUCKY NINE were sent for sampling.
