Racing Incident Report
SPECIAL K and APPRECIATION were crowded for room at the start between BIG WINNER AGAIN which shifted in and CASH MONEY which shifted out. Shortly after the start, EIGHT PLUS NINE shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider, Apprentice M L Yeung, resulting in BEAUTY EXPRESS being badly crowded for room between that horse and CHATER D’CAT. In the incident, BEAUTY EXPRESS struck the heels of CHATER D’CAT and blundered. Apprentice M L Yeung (EIGHT PLUS NINE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ALL TIME HIGH, resulting in that horse having to check away from the heels of EIGHT PLUS NINE. Apprentice Yeung was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 26 October 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Saturday 17 October 2009. Shortly after entering the Straight, SPECIAL K and APPRECIATION bumped as SPECIAL K shifted out to obtain clear running. Over the concluding stages, EIGHT PLUS NINE shifted out and brushed ALL TIME HIGH. Throughout the race, AMBITIOUS OWNER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding EIGHT PLUS NINE being ridden in a forward position today, Trainer A Lee stated that he instructed Apprentice M L Yeung, the rider of the horse, to obtain a position in the first four if possible. He said he arrived at this decision as he believed that horses racing in a forward position have been advantaged on today’s track and that from barrier 13, if the horse was ridden towards the rear, it would have been left with too much ground to make up and would not have been as competitive in today’s race. He stated however that he was surprised that EIGHT PLUS NINE was able to show sufficient speed to lead. Mr Lee was advised that his explanation would be reported. A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY EXPRESS and BIG WINNER AGAIN after the race did not show any significant findings. APPRECIATION and SPECIAL K were sent for sampling.
