Racing Incident Report

SPICY FRUITY was slow to begin. ROCKALOT began awkwardly. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, ROCKALOT got its head up when being steadied. When questioned, Z Purton stated that passing the winning post on the first occasion, SICHUAN HERO obtained a position on the fence, however, passing the 1200 Metres commenced to hang out which allowed the opportunity for SPICY FRUITY to improve on his inside. Passing the 1200 Metres, NAMJONG FIGHTERS was crowded for room between SICHUAN HERO and SUPER PEGASUS, both of which shifted ground. No further action was taken. After this, NAMJONG FIGHTERS travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding of BEST NOODLE, Apprentice M Chadwick stated that he was instructed to have the horse to be as handy as possible from gate 10, but to ensure that the horse was racing comfortably. He said he allowed BEST NOODLE to begin, however, the horse did not show any natural speed and he was reluctant to ride his mount along vigorously to take up a forward position having in mind he was instructed to have the horse racing where it was comfortable. He said when horses improved underneath him, he was caught wide making the first turn, therefore he elected to steady his mount to shift in behind runners at the rear of the field. He said at the 900 Metres he commenced to niggle at BEST NOODLE to have it improve into the race, however, the horse was reluctant to improve its position at this time. He said near the 600 Metres he elected to shift out around ROCKALOT as he wanted to afford BEST NOODLE the opportunity to have clear running and he felt that by allowing the horse to remain racing towards the fence, it may be held up and therefore would not be able to close the race off. He said when brought to the outside, BEST NOODLE finished the race off well. Apprentice Chadwick was advised, in the opinion of the Stewards, he should have made more effort in the early stages to obtain a handy position as instructed. He was also advised that he should have made more effort to put BEST NOODLE into the race sooner than he did on this occasion. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of OLYMPICSHIP, B Prebble stated that he was unable to offer any excuse for the manner in which the horse raced today. He did say he recommended to the connections that OLYMPICSHIP be switched surfaces as he felt the horse would appreciate a larger track. A veterinary inspection of OLYMPICSHIP after the race did not show any significant findings other than the horse had lost its right front plate. BEST NOODLE, MAGIC TEMPLE and SPICY FRUITY were sent for sampling.
