Racing Incident Report

GREAT HERO was slow to begin. On jumping, JUGGERNAUT was crowded for room between SPEEDY STAR and VICTORY STYLE which shifted in. TOY STORY began awkwardly. After the 1400 Metres, BEAUTIFUL CHOICE was steadied away from the heels of WHIPLASH which was carried in by MR COOL (H W Lai). H W Lai was told to exercise greater care. After the 1200 Metres, GREAT HERO was checked when tightened for room inside VICTORY STYLE which initially shifted in of its own accord and then was carried in further by DASHING THUNDER (Y T Cheng) which shifted in. In the circumstances, it was decided that Y T Cheng be severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. After entering the Back Straight, BEAUTIFUL CHOICE was shifted out and allowed to improve. Near the 600 Metres, BEAUTIFUL CHOICE became unbalanced after being bumped by JUGGERNAUT (B Prebble) which was shifted wider on the track. B Prebble was told such riding in slightly different circumstances could place him in breach of a significant rule. Making the Home Turn, TOY STORY was hampered and carried wider by CHAMPION LAD which shifted out to commence going forward. Shortly after straightening, WHIPLASH was steadied and shifted in to obtain clear running. When questioned regarding the poor performance of DASHING THUNDER, Y T Cheng said his mount travelled satisfactorily in a midfield position in the early stages, however, after the 800 Metres when placed under pressure to improve its position, DASHING THUNDER did not respond to his riding. He said after this DASHING THUNDER did not stride out as it normally does and failed to close the race off. He said because of the manner in which DASHING THUNDER was travelling, he did not ride his mount out over the final 150 Metres. DASHING THUNDER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DASHING THUNDER after the race did not show any significant findings. In the circumstances, the performance of DASHING THUNDER was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, DASHING THUNDER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. JUGGERNAUT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of JUGGERNAUT after the race did not show any significant findings. SPEEDY STAR, TOY STORY and WHIPLASH were sent for sampling.
