Racing Incident Report

During the parade, SPEEDY TYCOON became fractious, reared and fell over. SPEEDY TYCOON was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. After arriving at the Start, GLITTERING spun around, causing its rider, M Du Plessis, to be dislodged. GLITTERING worked to the 1800 Metre start before being recaptured. During the preliminary, BROTHERHOOD also spun around near the 1400 Metres, causing Apprentice M Chadwick, its rider, to be dislodged. BROTHERHOOD also worked to the 1800 Metre start before being recaptured. Both M Du Plessis and Apprentice Chadwick were examined by the Club’s doctor who said in his opinion both riders were suitable to fulfil their riding engagements. After returning to the Start, GLITTERING and BROTHERHOOD were examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion both horses were suitable to race. HUSSLER began awkwardly and bounded in the air. FAIRWOOD CROWN was slow into stride. Approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, GLITTERING, which was hanging out, got its head up and shifted out away from HAPPY ELITE which was carried out by GOOD STRIKE which shifted ground when being steadied away from the heels of HOT PEPPER which was steadied to allow MY WHISKY to cross. No action was taken. Near the 800 Metres, GLITTERING, which was continuing to race ungenerously, was steadied away from the heels of HAPPY ELITE which was carried wider by GOOD STRIKE which shifted out when again being steadied away from the heels of HOT PEPPER. After this, GLITTERING continued to hang out badly and raced greenly in the middle stages. Before being allowed to race again, GLITTERING will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial around a bend. Also near the 800 Metres, KEEP GOING was steadied away from the heels of BROTHERHOOD which steadied away from the heels of MY WHISKY (B Prebble) which shifted in when not quite clear. B Prebble was told to exercise greater care. After the 600 Metres, GOOD STRIKE, which was shifting towards the outside of HOT PEPPER to obtain clear running, was steadied when crowded for room inside HAPPY ELITE which shifted in slightly. No action was taken. On straightening, GLITTERING was bumped and carried wider by ROYAL DOMAIN which shifted out. From on straightening until the 200 Metres, BROTHERHOOD had difficulty obtaining clear running. When questioned regarding the poor performance of MY WHISKY, B Prebble explained his mount did not relax in the run and appeared to hold its breath. He said on pulling up following the race MY WHISKY was making an abnormal breathing noise. MY WHISKY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MY WHISKY after the race did not show any significant findings. HUSSLER and GOOD STRIKE were sent for sampling.
