Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, CHIU CHOW BROTHER became fractious, initially endeavoured to break through underneath the front gates of its stall and then momentarily had its left hind leg caught on the platform inside the stall. CHIU CHOW BROTHER was removed from the stall and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. After the race, it was reported CHIU CHOW BROTHER had a small amount of blood present at its nostrils. CHIU CHOW BROTHER was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said an endoscopic examination showed the horse’s trachea to be clean and as such was not deemed to have bled. On jumping, CHIU CHOW BROTHER was steadied when crowded for room inside ONE WORLD which got its head on the side and shifted in. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, PALACE GENERAL was steadied to avoid the heels of REGENCY DRAGON (Y T Cheng) which shifted in when not properly clear. MASTER POWER and ONE WORLD, which were following, were hampered in consequence. Y T Cheng was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. At the 700 Metres, GALLANT LION and HAWKES BAY became unbalanced when crowded for room inside SI FOO which shifted in momentarily when being steadied away from the heels of ONE WORLD. After the 600 Metres, SI FOO, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied away from the heels of BINGO STAR after being carried wider by HAWKES BAY (B Prebble) which shifted out. B Prebble was told to exercise greater care. Throughout the race, BINGO STAR travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the poor performance of FULL OF JOY, Z Purton said the horse had been working well in the lead up to the race. He said he had to make some use of FULL OF JOY in the early stages to obtain a forward position and his mount travelled comfortably until prior to straightening. He said however when placed under pressure FULL OF JOY became unbalanced in its action and commenced to give ground. He said he was mindful following its most recent start that FULL OF JOY had been reported to have had a substantial amount of blood present in its trachea and because of the manner in which FULL OF JOY was racing, he felt the horse might have bled. He said he therefore eased his mount down over the concluding stages. FULL OF JOY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, FULL OF JOY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. In the circumstances, the performance of FULL OF JOY was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FULL OF JOY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BRILLIANT CHAPTER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BRILLIANT CHAPTER after the race did not show any significant findings. ONE WORLD, HAWKES BAY and EXPRESS WIN were sent for sampling.
