Racing Incident Report

GALEN WIN, which was standing with its head turned to the left, began awkwardly and was then taken back. M W Leung (EASY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that making the turn at the 1000 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of HOLI RAVIOLI, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. M W Leung was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 15 December 2008 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Saturday 6 December 2008. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, HOLI RAVIOLI raced tight inside ULTRA FANTASY. Prior to straightening, WATCH WHAT HAPPENS was steadied away from the heels of CANNONISE which was giving ground. Shortly after straightening, ULTRA FANTASY was steadied away from the heels of HOLI RAVIOLI (D Whyte) which shifted out when not properly clear. D Whyte was told to exercise care. Throughout the race, CANNONISE travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. B Doyle (WATCH WHAT HAPPENS) said he had been instructed to ride the horse if possible in a midfield position with cover. He said WATCH WHAT HAPPENS began better than anticipated, then commenced to over-race and did not relax. He said WATCH WHAT HAPPENS travelled in a three wide position and obtained cover when CANNONISE crossed near the 700 Metres. He said because of the manner in which WATCH WHAT HAPPENS travelled, it failed to finish the race off. D Whyte (HOLI RAVIOLI) reported after his mount was interfered with on the first turn, it did not feel comfortable in its action. He said HOLI RAVIOLI appeared reluctant to race inside other runners. He said because of this in the Straight he shifted his mount wider on the track rather than remaining towards the inside to ensure HOLI RAVIOLI had clear galloping room in the hope the horse might be more comfortable in finishing the race off. He said in the Straight HOLI RAVIOLI did not respond to his riding. HOLI RAVIOLI was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. CANNONISE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HOLI RAVIOLI and CANNONISE after the race did not show any significant findings. WILLING STORM and ADAIKALI were sent for sampling.
