Racing Incident Report

ABLE DRAGON was withdrawn on 3.10.08 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (substantial amount of mucopus in trachea on scoping after track work). Before being allowed to race again, ABLE DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WISE LOVER was slow to begin. Approaching the 1100 Metres, when being steadied to allow INDUSTRIAL MARVEL to cross to the lead, CRYSTAL proved difficult to settle. Passing the 1000 Metres, MISSION commenced to over-race and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CRYSTAL. MISSION then shifted out and made contact with AMPLE GAINS on a number of occasions, resulting in that horse being taken wider. MAVERICK, which had been proving difficult to settle, was also taken wider in consequence and raced without cover for the remainder of the race. For a short distance in the early part of the Straight, CRYSTAL was held up for clear running. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MISSION, B Prebble said his mount over-raced in the early and middle stages and then when placed under pressure in the Straight was inclined to dip on a number of occasions. He added MISSION also hung in in the Straight, but it had done that previously when he had ridden the horse, so this was not of a concern to him. He said in his opinion MISSION did not handle the track surface and combined with the manner in which the horse raced in the early and middle stages, this accounted for the horse’s performance today. MISSION was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MISSION after the race did not show any significant findings. RICH DRAGON and CRYSTAL were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that INDUSTRIAL MARVEL was found to have swelling on the right flank area of its right hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, INDUSTRIAL MARVEL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
