Racing Incident Report
Whilst in the saddling stalls, it was noted TOP STITCH had shifted its right front plate. This plate was reset. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. After being boxed, LUCKY QUALITY became fractious and reared. LUCKY QUALITY was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. LUCKY QUALITY was a little slow to begin, then lost a considerable amount of ground when checked after being crowded for room between CHOICE AND CHANCE and PERFECT TREASURE, both of which began awkwardly and shifted ground. MY MELODY was slow to begin. Near the 800 Metres, HAPPY GO LUCKY became unbalanced and lost ground when bumped by LUCKY QUALITY which was racing keenly and shifted out away from the heels of PERFECT TREASURE. No action was taken. MY MELODY hung out making the turn at the 600 Metres and bumped the hindquarters of PERFECT TREASURE. After this, MY MELODY continued to hang out and lost ground. Throughout the race, SHY BALDY travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight, Z Purton (ASIAN CITRUS) explained the horse did not feel entirely comfortable on tonight’s wet track and was inclined to lay in. He said he did not use the whip on ASIAN CITRUS as he felt the horse would become further unbalanced and as a consequence would not finish the race off. He said he continued to ride ASIAN CITRUS out vigorously hands and heels and the horse responded strongly to his riding. When questioned regarding the poor performance of LUCKY QUALITY, D Whyte explained that after being fractious in the stalls, in his opinion at no stage of the race did the horse handle tonight’s wet track. He added on straightening LUCKY QUALITY made a significant breathing noise and did not respond to his riding. He said shortly after this LUCKY QUALITY felt unbalanced in its action and continued to be unbalanced on pulling up. LUCKY QUALITY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY QUALITY after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being permitted to race again, LUCKY QUALITY will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HAPPY GO LUCKY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY GO LUCKY after the race did not show any significant findings. JUST RIGHT and ASIAN CITRUS were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported TOP STITCH had lost its left front plate.
