Racing Incident Report

LUCKY DRAGON was slow to begin. THE ONLY ONE began awkwardly, then lost further ground after bumping with COP HILL LAD. Making the Home Turn, NATURAL FATCHOY hung out. In the early part of the Straight, LUCKY DRAGON had difficulty obtaining clear running, then near the 150 Metres was steadied away from the heels of JADE DANCER which was giving ground. Because of this, LUCKY DRAGON was not properly tested. For some distance after the 300 Metres, LEADER was steadied away from the heels of AURELIAN which was giving ground. After the 200 Metres, CARE FREE MIDAS was steadied when awkwardly placed between JAMESINA and BULB TREASURE. Also after the 200 Metres, Apprentice H W Lai (AURELIAN) had the whip knocked from his hand by the whip of B Prebble (AMAZING CHOISIR). At the 100 Metres, SIGHT WINNER got its head up and hung in. Because of this, D Whyte, its rider, changed the whip into his right hand. For the major part of the race, AURELIAN and BULB TREASURE travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, D Whyte (SIGHT WINNER) said approaching the 600 Metres NATURAL FATCHOY, which had been racing to his inside, shifted away from the rail. He said at the same time BULB TREASURE went forward of him and he allowed that horse to cross and race in a three wide position. He said as a consequence of this he followed NATURAL FATCHOY in the run. He said in his opinion SIGHT WINNER was better suited by having cover at this stage of the race rather than being ridden to maintain a three wide position outside NATURAL FATCHOY where he would have been without cover. NATURAL FATCHOY and SIGHT WINNER were sent for sampling.
