Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, SIR GALAHAD, which had been kicked on the hindquarters by an outrider’s horse during the preliminary, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. WIN PRACTITIONER was slow to begin. Making the turn at the 1200 Metres, WIN PRACTITIONER was carried wider by YOUNG HERO. At the 250 Metres, LHOJONG, which was giving ground, became unbalanced after being bumped by YOUNG HERO which hung in. Close to the line, YOUNG HERO was carried wider by ROCKET WIN which shifted out. Because of this, D Beadman did not ride YOUNG HERO out to the end of the race as he normally would. In the Straight, SIR GALAHAD hung in. When questioned, B Prebble (GREAT ACHIEVEMENT) explained in the early stages his mount did not relax. He said because it was doubtful if GREAT ACHIEVEMENT would run out a strong 1800 Metres, when the horse commenced to relax on entering the Back Straight, he did not ride along to maintain a position which would have prevented TOP HONOR from being able to shift in front of him. He said in his opinion if he had ridden along at this stage, he would have been required to make use of GREAT ACHIEVEMENT and as a result the horse would not have run out the distance of tonight’s race. YOUNG HERO, TOP HONOR and GREAT ACHIEVEMENT were sent for sampling.
