Racing Incident Report
From a wide barrier on jumping, WINNING PATTERN was restrained, then shortly afterwards was steadied and shifted across behind runners when awkwardly placed between NAMJONG MONEY which shifted out after making contact with LIGHTNING MOUNT and SILVER WRAITH which shifted in to be taken across behind runners from a wide draw. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, NAMJONG MONEY, which was proving difficult to settle, became unbalanced and shifted out away from the heels of LIGHTNING MOUNT. At the 1300 Metres, LIGHTNING SPEED was checked when crowded for room inside VITAL PATROL (D Beadman) which initially was taken in by MASTER YING (O Doleuze) and then shifted further away from that horse. In the circumstances, O Doleuze was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care and D Beadman was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort to protect his fellow riders. In the Home Straight, MASTER YING hung in. When questioned regarding the poor performance of HONG KONG GEM, G Mossé said throughout the race his mount was reluctant to stride out. He said the manner in which HONG KONG GEM raced tonight gave him the impression it would be better suited racing over a distance of further than the 1650 Metres of tonight’s race. HONG KONG GEM was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HONG KONG GEM after the race did not show any significant findings. LIGHTNING SPEED and FIGS were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported THAT’S WIN had bled from both nostrils.
