Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, it was noted NOT QUITE PERFECT had its tongue over the bit. This was rectified prior to the horse entering the barriers. On jumping, ROCKET POWER and MULLAAD were crowded for room outside BEAUTIFUL CHOICE which shifted out abruptly. FIRST KNIGHT began awkwardly. In the early stages, KA KA SMART was ridden along and then at the 1200 Metres was taken across behind runners into a midfield position with cover. The performance of KA KA SMART, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, KA KA SMART will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. At the 1100 Metres, FIRST KNIGHT was crowded for room between SABRE AND GOLD and MULLAAD which had its head on the side and shifted out. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, MULLAAD was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of REAL SURPRISE. Also making the turn at the 800 Metres, REAL SURPRISE was bumped on the hindquarters by MONTY which got its head on the side and hung out. In the early part of the Straight, SABRE AND GOLD, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted to the outside of FIRST KNIGHT. After the 300 Metres, MULLAAD was shifted in in an endeavour to obtain clear running. A Delpech (SPARE A DIME) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 200 Metres he shifted his mount out when not clear of NOT QUITE PERFECT, causing that horse to be bumped and carried out onto MONTY and REAL SURPRISE, both of which were hampered, resulting in REAL SURPRISE being carried across the rightful running of MR FLOODLIGHT which as a result was checked. FIRST KNIGHT and SABRE AND GOLD were hampered in consequence. A Delpech was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 22 October 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday 14 October 2007. In addition, A Delpech was fined $30,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. Throughout the race, TOP SPEED travelled wide and without cover. SUPER GOAL MASTER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SUPER GOAL MASTER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER GOAL MASTER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ROCKET POWER and SPARE A DIME were sent for sampling. The Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and riding of SPARE A DIME. Evidence was taken from A Delpech, the rider of SPARE A DIME, and Mr J Size, the trainer of the horse. The inquiry was adjourned to a date and time to be fixed.
