Racing Incident Report
EASY was withdrawn on 26.6.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter BOOM (Y T Cheng). Before being allowed to race again, EASY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Prior to leaving the holding stables, CLASSA FOR EVER had its right front plate which it had cast re-plated. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. STRONG GAIN began awkwardly and bumped with ISLAND SPEED. After this, STRONG GAIN lost ground. Shortly after the start, BLUE GENES and BULLDOZER were crowded for room between GOLDEN CARE which was carried out by CLASSA FOR EVER and NOBLE CRUSADER which shifted in. After the 700 Metres, FIFTY FIFTY hung in and shifted to the fence. As THUNDER FLASH shifted across to race outside FIFTY FIFTY (G Mossé), that horse was bumped as G Mossé endeavoured to shift FIFTY FIFTY away from the rail. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, FIFTY FIFTY was steadied away from the heels of CLASSA FOR EVER which lost some ground after being crossed by ISLAND SPEED. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, BULLDOZER hung out. The declaration of weighed-in was deferred as the Stewards were of the belief that incidents occurred in the Home Straight which cast doubt on whether ISLAND SPEED ought be declared the winner of the race. After reviewing the official videos, the Stewards did not believe this was an appropriate case for a formal hearing to be held. In their opinion near the 250 Metres ISLAND SPEED shifted in and bumped BOOM, 2nd placegetter, then near the 100 Metres BOOM and ISLAND SPEED bumped due to both horses shifting ground. In relation to the first bump, the Stewards considered had this interference not occurred, BOOM would not have finished in front of ISLAND SPEED and the second bump was not attributable wholly to ISLAND SPEED. Therefore the matter was not proceeded with. While it did not influence the decision of the Stewards, Y T Cheng also viewed the official videos of the race to ascertain whether he had sufficient grounds to lodge a protest/objection against ISLAND SPEED. After doing so, no protest/objection was lodged. Throughout the race, NOBLE CRUSADER travelled wide and without cover. B Prebble (BLUE GENES) reported after beginning only fairly his horse did not at any stage travel as he thought it should and as a consequence was much further back than anticipated. He said BLUE GENES only finished the race off fairly. BLUE GENES was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of BLUE GENES after the race did not show any significant findings. ISLAND SPEED and BOOM were sent for sampling.
