Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, SUPREME DRAGON was fractious. Before being allowed to race again, SUPREME DRAGON will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. SUPER SURPRISE was slow to begin. On jumping, PURE ALPHA was steadied from the outside barrier and shifted across behind runners. BOLD CHAMPION began awkwardly and bumped the inside of its stall. Shortly after the start, BOLD CHAMPION was steadied and shifted out when crowded for room between SUPER SURPRISE and KAISER'S PRIZE (K S Yu) which shifted in when not properly clear. K S Yu was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. In the early stages, from a wide barrier, SPEEDING MOLLY was taken back. Also in the early stages, DECAGONAL proved difficult to settle. Approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, SOUTHERN EMPEROR was carried wider by BOLD CHAMPION which when proving difficult to settle was steadied away from the heels of SUPER IDEAL and shifted to a three wide position. After this, BOLD CHAMPION continued to race without cover. On straightening, SUPER IDEAL was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of SUPREME DRAGON. At the 350 Metres, KAISER'S PRIZE was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of BOLD CHAMPION which got its head on the side and shifted in. At the 200 Metres, SOUND OF SILENCE became unbalanced and lost ground when crowded for room between LIVERBIRD which shifted out and PURE ALPHA which shifted in away from BOLD CHAMPION which also shifted in. In the circumstances, no action was taken. At the 150 Metres, Y T Cheng (PURE ALPHA) had his whip knocked from his hand by the whip of B Prebble (BOLD CHAMPION). Near the 100 Metres, BROWN BEAUTY, which was closing the race off fairly, was steadied when awkwardly placed outside the heels of SOUND OF SILENCE which shifted out, then just prior to the winning post was steadied away from the heels of SPEEDING MOLLY which drifted in. For the major part of the race, AWESOME DRAGON travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the improved performance of LIVERBIRD, Mr C S Shum, trainer of the horse, said prior to its last start LIVERBIRD had in his opinion been racing consistently. He said at its last start LIVERBIRD received some crowding at the start, then throughout the race travelled wide and without cover. He said in his opinion this accounted for the horse's poor performance on that occasion. He said today LIVERBIRD was able to obtain a favourable position in the run and benefited from a reasonable decrease in the weight being carried by the horse. DECAGONAL and SOUND OF SILENCE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, DECAGONAL was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. A veterinary inspection of SOUND OF SILENCE after the race did not show any significant findings. LIVERBIRD and BOLD CHAMPION were sent for sampling.
