Racing Incident Report
WHATAFANTASY was withdrawn on 14.6.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (swollen left fore cannon) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ALPHA MAIL. Before being allowed to race again, WHATAFANTASY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. JOY AND FUN bounded in the air at the start. MASTER POWER began awkwardly and lost ground. Shortly after the start, LASER POWER was crowded for room inside REGENCY DRAGON which shifted in after making contact with DON FELIPE. After the 1300 Metres, ALPHA MAIL, which from the outside barrier was travelling wide and without cover, was allowed to stride forward and join the lead. S Dye (HORACE'S CHOICE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of DOWN THE WICKET and JOY AND FUN, causing those horses to be checked and lose their rightful running. When DOWN THE WICKET checked near the 1200 Metres, inconvenience was caused to GRAND CRU which was racing to its outside. S Dye was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Tuesday 3 July 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 24 June 2007. In addition, S Dye was fined $20,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. S Dye pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of DON FELIPE, causing that horse to be carried in across the rightful running of JOY AND FUN which as a result was checked. The two suspensions incurred by S Dye are to be served concurrently. After the 800 Metres, DOWN THE WICKET was left racing wide without cover. After the 400 Metres, DON FELIPE, which was held up and unable to obtain clear running, was checked and shifted in to avoid the heels of ALPHA MAIL which commenced to give ground. At the 300 Metres, GRAND CRU, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied when disappointed for running between MASTER POWER and DOWN THE WICKET which when giving ground was carried wider by JOY AND FUN. For some distance after this, GRAND CRU continued to have difficulty obtaining clear running between DOWN THE WICKET and MASTER POWER and at the 200 Metres was shifted to the outside of MASTER POWER. The declaration of weighed-in was deferred as the Stewards considered incidents occurred after the 200 Metres which cast doubt on whether REGENCY DRAGON should be declared the 3rd placegetter. After viewing the official videos of the Home Straight, the Stewards considered it was not necessary to proceed with the matter and have it considered at a protest/objection hearing. Therefore weighed-in was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. Near the 300 Metres and again near the 200 Metres, LASER POWER, 4th placegetter, shifted out and made contact with REGENCY DRAGON. Then after the 100 Metres, REGENCY DRAGON shifted in and brushed LASER POWER. In the Straight, JOY AND FUN hung in. Throughout the race, BEAUTIFUL DREAMER travelled wide and without cover. DOWN THE WICKET, FELLOWSHIP and GRAND CRU were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DOWN THE WICKET, FELLOWSHIP and GRAND CRU after the race did not show any significant findings. JOY AND FUN and HORACE'S CHOICE were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 18 June 2007)
DOWN THE WICKET, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. DOWN THE WICKET was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer A Lee this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, DOWN THE WICKET will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
