Racing Incident Report

Making the turn at the 600 Metres, HAPPY GO LUCKY was steadied when crowded for room inside BRAVE KNIGHT (Apprentice C W Wong) which got its head on the side and shifted in away from BEAUTY PLUS which shifted in momentarily. At the 500 Metres, HAPPY GO LUCKY was checked when crowded for room inside BRAVE KNIGHT which again got its head on the side and shifted in away from BEAUTY PLUS which again shifted in slightly. ESPERANZA, which was following, was checked in consequence. As the Stewards did not believe responsibility for this incident could be attributed to one rider, no action was taken, however, Apprentice Wong was advised in similar circumstances to make a greater effort to protect his fellow riders. Making the Home Turn, MY SAY raced tight inside LUCKY STRAVINSKY which was laying in. On straightening, MY SAY bumped the running rail when continuing to race tight. After straightening, MAGI JOY became unbalanced when being shifted to the inside of MY SAY into clear running. For the major part of the race, REUNION travelled wide and without cover. HAPPY GO LUCKY and REUNION were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, HAPPY GO LUCKY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Also after the race, REUNION was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise and an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. MAGI JOY, BRILLIANT ONE and BRAVE KNIGHT were sent for sampling. Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported LUCKY STRAVINSKY was making an abnormal breathing noise and MY SAY had sustained a cut to the left front heel.
