Racing Incident Report
KAISER'S CHOIX began awkwardly, got its head up and as a consequence lost ground. VALUE CHOICE began awkwardly. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, SUPER BALL failed to muster speed and travelled wide and without cover until after the 1000 Metres. Making the Home Turn, WAIT FOR ME was carried wider by VALUE CHOICE, then in the Home Straight hung in. Near the 100 Metres, QUALITY-QUALITY, which was closing the race off strongly, was shifted to the outside of SAMBUOYANT to continue going forward. At the 50 Metres, KAISER'S CHOIX was steadied when awkwardly placed between QUALITY-QUALITY and PRIMIATA, both of which shifted ground. Because of this, KAISER'S CHOIX was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Y T Cheng (SAMBUOYANT) explained the horse had been freshened up since its last run and was dropping back in distance tonight. He said because of this he was asked to endeavour to have the horse in a forward position if possible. He said at the horse's most recent start which was his first ride on SAMBUOYANT, he had been instructed to ride the horse where it felt comfortable. He said from barrier 9 he noticed a number of horses drawn to his inside going forward at the start, he therefore decided to allow SAMBUOYANT to drift back in an attempt to find cover. He said he was not able to obtain cover until after passing the winning post on the first occasion and was at the rear of the field. Mr P O'Sullivan, trainer of SAMBUOYANT, confirmed the riding instructions issued to Y T Cheng. He said tonight's instructions were consistent with those issued for the horse in the past. He said since joining his stable SAMBUOYANT had shown little gate speed and it always travelled worse than midfield. He said he again anticipated tonight despite the riding instructions that the horse would not be part of the pace and would travel in a position behind midfield. He said the only explanation he could give for SAMBUOYANT travelling further forward than normal was the horse had been freshened up since its last start. S Dye (SUPER BALL) explained at no stage of the race did his mount stretch out and travel as he felt it should. The performance of SUPER BALL, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, SUPER BALL will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SOLDIER ON and SUPER BALL were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SOLDIER ON and SUPER BALL after the race did not show any significant findings. QUALITY-QUALITY and SAMBUOYANT were sent for sampling.
