Racing Incident Report

MELLIFLUOUS was withdrawn on 23.5.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (blood abnormality) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MY BROTHER (M Nunes). Before being allowed to race again, MELLIFLUOUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When being saddled, MACHO EXPRESSO became fractious and kicked out behind, resulting in it shifting both its right hind and right front plates. As MACHO EXPRESSO continued to be fractious and was unable to be re-plated, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. BROWN BEAR was a little slow to begin, then lost further ground after being hampered by SUPER MUSIC which shifted out abruptly. SUPER BABY was slow to begin. In the early stages, MY BROTHER proved difficult to settle and at the 800 Metres was left racing without cover. At the 1000 Metres, BROWN BEAR was checked and LUCKY FRUIT (B Prebble) inconvenienced when awkwardly placed inside the heels of LUCKY RED PEPPER. The Stewards believed there were a number of circumstances contributing to this incident, therefore no action was taken, however, B Prebble was told to ensure he exercises care when positioning his mounts to the inside of other runners. At the 800 Metres, when being steadied to obtain a position with cover behind MY BROTHER, CHATER POWER raced ungenerously. Making the Home Turn, SURE JOY hung out. At the 250 Metres, CHATER POWER was awkwardly placed inside the heels of MY BROTHER which shifted in when giving ground. Approaching the 100 Metres, SWIFT GERMANIA broke down and fell, dislodging W M Lai, its rider. Following the race, W M Lai was examined by the Club's doctor who said in his opinion W M Lai was fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagement. Close to the line, CHATER POWER was awkward on the heels of RICH DRAGON. Because of this, CHATER POWER was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. RICH DRAGON, STEP TO WIN and SURE JOY were sent for sampling.
