Racing Incident Report
Shortly after the start, DIAMOND BRILLIANCE lost ground after being bumped by HARB which shifted in after being bumped by YELLOW DIAMOND. Also shortly after the start, DON FELIPE lost ground when crowded for room between LASER POWER and MUTE which shifted out. Passing the 900 Metres, HERE WE GO was steadied away from the heels of MUTE which shifted in. At the 600 Metres, DIAMOND BRILLIANCE was steadied away from the heels of YELLOW DIAMOND which shifted in. Also making the turn at the 600 Metres, DON FELIPE was hampered by MUTE which got its head on the side, hung out and was checked away from the heels of LASER POWER. After the 50 Metres, BULLDOZER was steadied when awkwardly placed outside the heels of BEAR MACHO (A Delpech) which shifted out. A Delpech was advised to exercise greater care. Close to the finish, HE CAN TANGO, which was closing the race off, was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of FIFTY FIFTY. Throughout the race, NOBLE CRUSADER travelled wide and without cover. Apprentice H W Lai (YELLOW DIAMOND) said the intention had been to ride the horse in 3rd or 4th position. He said YELLOW DIAMOND began on equal terms with runners to its inside and it soon became apparent to him that he would not have sufficient speed to cross those runners and as a consequence near the 1100 Metres he steadied YELLOW DIAMOND and took it across behind runners in the hope of obtaining a position with cover. He said as a consequence YELLOW DIAMOND got further back than intended. He said he was not able to obtain a position with cover and YELLOW DIAMOND was left racing wide and without cover after the 700 Metres. He said despite enduring a tough run, YELLOW DIAMOND closed the race off strongly. B Prebble (LASER POWER), which was having its first start today from a let-up, explained after beginning well he initially went forward, then after the 1100 Metres as LASER POWER was not showing natural speed, he allowed the horse to travel where it was comfortable. He said making the turn at the 1000 Metres runners from the outside shifted across and he elected to take a position following FIFTY FIFTY. He said whilst this was slightly further back than initially intended, LASER POWER was able to finish the race off fairly. He said whilst it appeared LASER POWER was travelling comfortably in the run, the horse did hang out today which is unusual. He did say whilst LASER POWER has been successful on tracks rated "Good to Firm", he does believe the horse is better suited racing on tracks with some give in it. LASER POWER, BEAR MACHO and BULLDOZER were sent for sampling.
