Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, THE ONLY ONE became fractious. THE ONLY ONE was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. ROCKET AND GOLD was slow to begin, then failed to muster speed in the early stages. On jumping, HAPPY GO LAGO and LAMBRO bumped. After the 800 Metres, THE ONLY ONE was left racing without cover. At the 750 Metres, PRIDEOFTHEORIENT was steadied away from the heels of HAPPY GO LAGO which in the middle stages hung out. Also at the 750 Metres, NOT QUITE PERFECT, which had been hard ridden to maintain its position, was checked and lost ground when crowded for room between LOLLIPOP which initially shifted out and PICTURE PERFECT (S K Sit) which then shifted in. In the circumstances, S K Sit was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. In the early part of the Straight, HAPPY GO LAGO hung in. The performance of THE ONLY ONE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, THE ONLY ONE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. S Dye (NOT QUITE PERFECT), a last start winner, explained the horse's poor performance today was due to him being required to make use of NOT QUITE PERFECT to obtain a forward position. He said NOT QUITE PERFECT's better performances are usually when it has drawn an inside barrier which enables it to obtain a position close to the rail without being made use of. LOLLIPOP was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. GALAXY DANCER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, LOLLIPOP was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils. Also after the race, GALAXY DANCER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being allowed to race again, GALAXY DANCER will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. THE ONE and LAMBRO were sent for sampling.
