Racing Incident Report

As the gates opened, TOP TOP LIGHT bounded in the air and lost a considerable amount of ground. SANBENITO was slow to begin. With the intention of being ridden with cover from the outside barrier, SPEED FIGHTER in the early stages was taken back. Shortly after the start, DELIGHTFUL WIN was steadied when crowded for room between AMAZING ME and TREASURE COLT which shifted in. M Nunes (CALCANDO) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 800 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of NICE KING, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. When NICE KING was checked, it shifted out, causing WALKONTHEWILDSIDE and SMART HORSE to be checked severely and AMAZING ME and SPEED FIGHTER to be steadied. M Nunes was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 30 April 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on 22 April 2007. In addition, M Nunes was fined $30,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. From on straightening until the 250 Metres, MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP had difficulty obtaining clear running. From on straightening until near the 200 Metres, SANBENITO was unable to obtain clear running. In the early part of the Straight, THUNDER DANCING had some difficulty obtaining clear running. From the 400 Metres until after the 300 Metres, TOP TOP LIGHT had difficulty obtaining clear running. After the 300 Metres, NICE KING was checked when crowded for room between MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP which shifted out and MASTER DREAMER which shifted in when giving ground. After the 200 Metres, NICE KING was steadied when awkwardly placed between SANBENITO and MASTER DREAMER which continued to give ground. SPEED FIGHTER and SMART HORSE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SPEED FIGHTER after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, SMART HORSE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. CALCANDO, WALKONTHEWILDSIDE and MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP were sent for sampling.
