Racing Incident Report
KING OF CREOLE and DEMINER were slow to begin. On jumping, SPICY HOT knuckled. Shortly after the start, ACCELERATOR was steadied when crowded for room between COUNTRY MAGIC and TREASURABLE which shifted in. For some distance after the 1000 Metres, TREASURABLE, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of COUNTRY MAGIC. Near the 800 Metres, TOFFEE and SPLENDID SAILS bumped, became unbalanced and were steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of COUNTRY MAGIC (C Soumillon) which at this time shifted in when not quite clear. ACCELERATOR, which was following, was steadied in consequence. C Soumillon was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. In the middle stages, ACCELERATOR hung out. From shortly after the 400 Metres until the 150 Metres, WIKI WIKI was held up and unable to improve between HAPPY SUNDAY and DEMINER. At the 300 Metres, SPLENDID SAILS was steadied away from the heels of COUNTRY MAGIC which at this time shifted to the outside of DEMINER. After the 50 Metres, DEMINER, which was giving ground, was steadied away from the heels of SPICY HOT which shifted out. For the major part of the race, TRIUMPHANT GLORY travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, A Delpech (BEAUTIFUL CHOICE) said when being taken back from a wide draw in the early stages, his mount proved very difficult to settle. He said on straightening he shifted BEAUTIFUL CHOICE to the outside and commenced to ride the horse along hands and heels. He said approaching the 200 Metres he changed the whip into his left hand momentarily as BEAUTIFUL CHOICE was inclined to shift out. He said as soon as he did this, BEAUTIFUL CHOICE then got its head on the side and shifted in, so he immediately changed the whip back into his right hand and continued to ride BEAUTIFUL CHOICE out. He did say over the concluding stages his left hand became entangled in the horse's mane and because of this he was restricted in the manner in which he could ride BEAUTIFUL CHOICE out. A Delpech was told to ensure where circumstances permit he fully tests his mounts at all times. When questioned regarding the poor performance of TREASURABLE, O Doleuze said the horse raced greenly throughout. He said whilst he was wide on the course, he did have cover. He said however in the Straight when he attempted to improve his position, TREASURABLE shifted ground on several occasions and did not respond to his riding. He said whilst TREASURABLE was successful at its last start, today the horse raced in a manner indicating it lacked experience. TREASURABLE and DEMINER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TREASURABLE and DEMINER after the race did not show any significant findings. COUNTRY MAGIC, TOFFEE and WIKI WIKI were sent for sampling.
