Racing Incident Report

BAAZIGAR was slow to begin, then shortly afterwards lost further ground when crowded for room between FANTASTIC WIN which shifted in and TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND which shifted out. Near the 1500 Metres, SAFETY FIRST was steadied when awkwardly placed outside COURAGEOUSHEART which at this time shifted out. Near the 1400 Metres, TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND was checked when crowded for room inside SINOSPIEL which momentarily was carried in slightly by FLAMING SUN (D Nikolic) which shifted in when not quite clear. D Nikolic was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. Approaching the 800 Metres, BAAZIGAR proved difficult to settle. Near the 600 Metres, SINOSPIEL, which was endeavouring to shift away from the fence from behind FLAMING SUN, raced tight inside NATURAL FATCHOY. As a consequence, SINOSPIEL was steadied. In the early part of the Straight, TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND had difficulty obtaining clear running, then at the 200 Metres was steadied and shifted to the inside of SOHNA to go forward. Near the 300 Metres, BAAZIGAR was steadied away from the heels of SOHNA which at this time was carried wider by SAFETY FIRST (A Starke) which shifted out when struck with the whip. A Starke stopped riding and straightened his mount. After the 100 Metres, BAAZIGAR, which was laying in, was awkwardly placed outside the heels of SOHNA which shifted out away from SAFETY FIRST which at this time shifted ground. BRIGHT AND GAY was steadied away from the heels of BAAZIGAR. When A Starke straightened his mount, SAFETY FIRST then shifted in and caused some inconvenience to TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND which at this time was shifting out. As a result, TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND was steadied, became unbalanced and caused some inconvenience to SINOSPIEL. Throughout the race, HAPPY GO LAGO travelled wide and without cover. D Whyte (NEW COMMAND) was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said the intention had been to lead, however, when COURAGEOUSHEART was hard ridden in the early stages, he elected to take a position behind that horse. He said the race was run at a suitable tempo and NEW COMMAND travelled comfortably, however, after straightening did not respond when placed under pressure. He said at the 200 Metres he steadied NEW COMMAND from behind LORD CAIRNS and COURAGEOUSHEART which at this time were giving ground, however, this was of no consequence. HAPPY GO LAGO, DEERFIELD and NEW COMMAND were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY GO LAGO, DEERFIELD and NEW COMMAND after the race did not show any significant findings. SAFETY FIRST and TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND were sent for sampling.
