Racing Incident Report
After being saddled, SURVEY SURVEY cast its right front plate and stood on a nail. SURVEY SURVEY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse had sustained a puncture wound to the sole of its right front foot and as such was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of SURVEY SURVEY. Before being allowed to race again, SURVEY SURVEY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Trainer A S Cruz pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct in that when in the vicinity of the temporary saddling stalls prior to the running of this race, he did direct abusive and inappropriate language to an official of the Club. Mr Cruz was fined $75,000 [Rule 155(5)]. Approaching the 1600 Metres, VITAL KING, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of INFINITE DELIGHT which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of VIVA MACAU. From the 800 Metres, VIVA MACAU was left racing without cover. In the early part of the Straight, GROWL was awkwardly placed behind PUERTO RICO which commenced to give ground. When questioned regarding the performance of CHAMPIONS GALLERY, O Doleuze said the horse which is one-paced was not suited by the slow tempo. He said in his opinion he would have been required to make too much use of CHAMPIONS GALLERY to hold DOWN TOWN out from leading in the early stages, however, after being crossed by DOWN TOWN that horse then steadied the tempo. He said when the field sprinted after straightening CHAMPIONS GALLERY kept on one-paced. CHAMPIONS GALLERY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CHAMPIONS GALLERY after the race did not show any significant findings. FLORAL PEGASUS and VIVA MACAU were sent for sampling.
