Racing Incident Report
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, MATIRI KING which had been hard ridden, was steadied away from the heels of KOWLOON FIT which shifted in when not properly clear. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Near the 1300 Metres, AMSTERDAM was steadied away from the heels of EASY PUNCH which at this time shifted to a position on the rail behind PIONERO. At the 700 Metres, MILLENNIUM SPIRIT was steadied when crowded for room inside AMSTERDAM which was racing tight inside BRILLIANT ONE which after shifting out was carried back in by GOLD FIELD. In the circumstances, no action was taken. On straightening, KOWLOON FIT was steadied away from the heels of PIONERO which shifted out. For a considerable distance after the 200 Metres, MILLENNIUM SPIRIT, which was making ground from well back, had difficulty obtaining clear running. Over the concluding stages, BEAR DOMINANCE was carried wider by CARRY GOOD NEWS which shifted out. Throughout the race, GRAND CENTRAL travelled wide and without cover. D Nikolic (EASY PUNCH) said the intention had been to ride the horse where it was comfortable. He said it was anticipated this would be in a rearward position as is usual. He said on jumping EASY PUNCH knuckled, when the horse regained its balance, he then rode along for a short distance to ensure it did not get too far out of its ground. He said when he did this EASY PUNCH commenced to travel keenly and settled much further forward than anticipated. He said EASY PUNCH failed to close the race off as expected when ridden in this manner and was disappointing. He said on past performances EASY PUNCH is better suited ridden from a rearward position. KOWLOON FIT and BRILLIANT ONE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KOWLOON FIT and BRILLIANT ONE after the race did not show any significant findings. EASY PUNCH, PIONERO and TACTIC KING were sent for sampling.
