Racing Incident Report

WIN FOR ALL, which was fractious in its stall, was slow to begin. TATTENHALL DELIGHT was slow to begin, then lost further ground when crowded for room between BRAVE COMMANDER and REWARDING STAR which on jumping shifted out. BENEFICIAL began awkwardly, made contact with JOY TRUMPS and was then taken across behind runners. With the intention of being ridden quietly, SOUND OF SILENCE was taken across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, BENEFICIAL, which had been ridden along to make up ground, was checked away from the heels of KAO AND MING (O Doleuze) which at this time was shifting in. WIN FOR ALL was steadied away from the heels of BENEFICIAL in consequence. As O Doleuze immediately stopped riding and straightened his mount, no action was taken. After the 1400 Metres, JOY TRUMPS was steadied when tightened for room between GOLD DIGGER and SOUND OF SILENCE. Approaching the 900 Metres, JOY TRUMPS was slightly inconvenienced by KAO AND MING which shifted out. Shortly after this, JOY TRUMPS was steadied when awkwardly placed between KAO AND MING and GOLD DIGGER which shifted in slightly. No action was taken. At the 500 Metres, TATTENHALL DELIGHT was steadied when crowded for room between CHAMP DRAGON and JUSTINIAN which at this time shifted out away from the heels of REWARDING STAR which commenced to give ground quickly. No action was taken. The performance of REWARDING STAR, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, REWARDING STAR will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. At the 250 Metres, BENEFICIAL was shifted to the inside of BRAVE COMMANDER to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, ARROGANCE travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding out of BRAVE COMMANDER, G Mossé said in the Straight the horse commenced to give ground and he felt the horse may have had an internal problem. He said because of this he did not ride BRAVE COMMANDER out fully over the final 100 Metres. After the race, BRAVE COMMANDER was subjected to an endoscopic examination by a clinical veterinary surgeon at the request of Mr A S Cruz, the horse's trainer. This examination showed the horse to have some mucopus present in the trachea, however, in the opinion of the Veterinary Surgeon the nature of the mucopus was not significant. G Mossé was told whilst the Stewards would never ask a jockey to compromise safety or the well-being of the horse, he was reminded where circumstances permit to continue riding his mounts out to the end of the race at least hands and heels. JOY TRUMPS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of JOY TRUMPS after the race did not show any significant findings. TATTENHALL DELIGHT, JOYFUL YEARS and ARROGANCE were sent for sampling. Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported BENEFICIAL was lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, BENEFICIAL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
