Racing Incident Report
BAAZIGAR was slow to begin and shortly afterwards lost further ground when crowded for room between WISDOM EXPRESS and FINGERS CROSSED which was carried in by FLYING KENNY. For a considerable distance after the 1200 Metres, WISDOM EXPRESS, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up on a number of occasions. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, BAAZIGAR was steadied away from the heels of QI'S PET. In the middle stages, CLOVIS was left racing without cover. ISLAND SPEED made the Home Turn awkwardly and hung out. Shortly after straightening, QI'S PET was shifted to the inside of HONEST TREASURE to go forward. Then approaching and passing the 200 Metres, QI'S PET again had difficulty obtaining clear running and was shifted wider on the track. From near the 300 Metres until after the 200 Metres, BAAZIGAR had difficulty obtaining clear running. After the 50 Metres, ISLAND SPEED and PEARL OF INDIA bumped. In the Straight, FIRST KNIGHT hung in. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in while they considered whether A MIRROR had had an unfair start. After viewing the available videos, the Stewards were of the opinion when the start was effected the blindfold being used on A MIRROR had not been removed. Shortly after the start was effected, the blindfold was removed by A Delpech, the horse's rider. As a consequence, A MIRROR lost a considerable amount of ground. As the Stewards were of the opinion A MIRROR had had an unfair start, the Stewards ordered the horse to be declared a non-runner [Rule 12(19)]. FAT DRAGON and HONEST TREASURE were sent for sampling. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conduced on FINGERS CROSSED at the request of Trainer P O'Sullivan which showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FINGERS CROSSED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
