Racing Incident Report
AGILITY and FRUITY FRUITY were slow to begin. On jumping, MAVERICK STAR shifted in and bumped CHEEKY. Passing the 1000 Metres, MAVERICK STAR got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of RICE FIELD. For some distance after this, MAVERICK STAR continued to prove difficult to settle and near the 800 Metres shifted out away from the heels of RICE FIELD and was then allowed to stride forward. Shortly after straightening, RICE FIELD was bumped by SOUNDS BEST which shifted to the outside of MAVERICK STAR into clear running. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied the riding of C Soumillon (SOUNDS BEST), 4th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, he was nonetheless severely reprimanded and told to ensure he rides his mounts out right to the winning post at least hands and heels. F Coetzee (AGILITY) said the horse which was having its second start at Happy Valley tonight was unsettled prior to the event and then did not relax during the run. He said because of this AGILITY failed to finish the race off. He did point out at its only other run at Happy Valley AGILITY was also disappointing. SATURN and AGILITY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SATURN and AGILITY after the race did not show any significant findings. FAMOUS DANCER and EXCELLENT BOY were sent for sampling.
